Fitness Friday

To start, I have to announce that I was just accepted as a Fit Approach Sweat Pink Ambassador! Woo hoo! You can find a badge in my right sidebar that will take you to their website to learn more about them. I’m so excited!

I had a request for today’s post – A friend on Instagram asked if I would post my normal workout routine for a week. I’m not sure why I never thought to do this before, but hopefully it’s helpful for some of you! Obviously this is not the only way to do things/get fit/lose weight and different people find different workouts more entertaining/more challenging/more fun, so if you’ve found something that works for you, stick with it! That’s the biggest thing – Find something (or multiple types of workouts) you love, and go for it! You’re so much more likely to stick with it if you’re doing things you enjoy.

I’m currently working out 6 days/week. I’m maintaining my weight and working to add more muscle tone and definition and to get stronger. I didn’t start with 6 intense workouts/week, so if this is intimidating, don’t worry! You’ll work up to a point where you find a balance of pushing yourself and feeling good about your routine, it just takes time. If you’ve just started working out and your goal is 3 days/week, good for you! That’s 3 more times/week than you were working out before!

My Monday workout is always Zumba. Zumba is the first workout I fell in love with, and unfortunately Monday is the only day that the classes work with my schedule. I’ve been going to an incredible instructor since I started going in December of 2011, and I’ve only found one other instructor locally who compares to her, and both of their classes are on Mondays. So, I go to the instructor at the Y at 4:30 with a friend and then go to my regular instructor’s class at 6 PM. It seems like a lot, but it’s a total of 2.5 hours and I burn close to 1300 calories usually. Do I realize that doesn’t fit into everyone’s schedule? Yes. But my schedule is flexible and I’ve found a way to make it work and to make up missed work later that evening.

Tuesday’s workout is almost always FIERCE class at the Y, and I usually take David’s younger sister who I’ve started working with. FIERCE is a HIIT workout with tons of intense cardio mixed in with ‘recovery’ periods of strength training with a weighted bar. It’s one of the best workouts I’ve found if you’ve only got an hour, want to sweat like crazy, and get in cardio and toning exercises. I love it!

{Feeling strong after FIERCE!}

Wednesday’s workout is on my own. This week it was walking Paisley and TurboFire and then a second workout with David in the evening of a TurboFire HIIT workout and Ab Ripper X. Some weeks it’s running, arc trainer, and a weights circuit at the Y. It just depends on what I’m feeling, really. {Contact me if you’re interested in TurboFire! I’m an Independent Beachbody Coach! :)}

Thursday is FIERCE again with David’s sister. It’s a different instructor, so the class is laid out a little differently and the exercises are switched up, which is nice. I love Thursday’s class!

Friday’s workout depends on my schedule and the instructor at the Y. Sometimes I go to FIERCE (if I like the instructor – two of them alternate for this particular class) and sometimes I do my own thing, similar to Wednesday. I love starting off the weekend with a good workout, though, so I work my butt off regardless of what I’m doing!

Saturday is whatever I feel like at the gym. I go to the one near our house that was recently remodeled (I usually go to another location that I’d been going to with a better class schedule) and stay until I feel like I’ve worked as hard as I can. We go out to eat or have drinks with friends fairly often on Friday evenings, so Saturday mornings are my time to work hard and get focused for the rest of the weekend. A lot of times I run on the track for awhile, do the stair climber until I’m dripping sweat, and then do the weights circuit and ab work.

Sundays are my rest day. I’ll occasionally get some light cardio in like a walk with Pais or playing tennis with David when it’s nicer outside, but for the most part I let my body rest and recover from the week. Rest days are good! :)

And, that, for now, is my workout routine! Oh, and I do the plank challenge every day on top of my regular workout, too! When it gets warmer, I’ll probably start doing more running outside to prep for the races I want to run this year, but for now I spend a lot of my time at the gym. If you have any questions at all or are interested in learning more about any of my workouts, don’t hesitate to contact me! I’d love to help! Just today I helped my momma figure out where everything is at her gym and develop a fitness routine – I seriously love this stuff!

I’ll leave you with my Flex Friday picture for today – Have a great weekend!
