How Time Flies

Today just so happens to mark 4 years since my cute husband proposed to me. We don’t really celebrate this day, and he’s traveling for work anyway, but it’s still fun to look back on (and hard to believe how fast the time has flown!) When I was hanging out with Laura over the weekend, she asked me how David had proposed. I realized the majority of my current blog readers didn’t follow my wedding blog and wouldn’t know the story, so I decided to repost my post from our first ‘engageiversary’ since it’s one of my favorites – Hope you enjoy!

Day 1,905: He Asked Me What I Was Doing for the Rest of His Life

A year Four years ago I...

...was woken up by my roommate (and bridesmaid) with a note from David.

...started crying because I hoped so badly that this wasn't just for my birthday and was instead leading up to a proposal and had my roommate take pictures every step of the way!

...threw on clothes and went to get a wonderful massage with said roommate/bridesmaid.

...couldn't relax because my hands were shaking and I was so anxious about what else was going to happen! I had no idea a certain someone was at my house at that very moment.

...found a 2nd wonderful surprise when I arrived home.

...was totally confused as to who cooked the food and began to question whether David was lying to me about where he was!

...ate a delicious lunch of all of my favorite foods.

...received a 3rd note that made me even more excited!

...showered faster than ever before and then found a 4th note on my bed.

...had the hardest time figuring out that darn puzzle! (I'm hoping it was just because I was anxious - I don't think I'm really that dumb!)

...put on the dress I had bought to wear for the proposal... and couldn't get it zipped.

...panicked because no one else was home, and then called one of my friends and asked if I could stop by on the way to the campanile!

...finished getting ready, stopped my be friend's to have her (and her roommate) zip my dress, and headed to the campanile, all while thinking, 'This is the last time I'll be driving without a ring on my finger!' :)

...parked in the wrong parking lot which threw David (and his accomplice – my roommate/bridesmaid) off and required me to walk up a HUGE hill.

...found a trail of rose petals leading to 5 scattered roses for the 5 years we'd been together.

...gathered all of the roses and looked up to see David coming out from behind the campanile - I was SO happy to finally see him!

...told him all about my dress fiasco, which was funny by this point. (Not so funny at the time!)

...kissed my soon-to-be fiancé about a million times as he tried to finish his 'speech' full of lots of sweet things.

...tried not to cry/shake *and failed miserably* as he asked me the question I'd waited so long to hear.

...gave David the biggest hug and kiss ever!

...melted a little when he showed me he'd updated his relationship status on Facebook to 'engaged' and his status to 'Shh, it's a surprise!'

...took lots of pictures with my new fiancé!

{You can read even more details about the proposal story in my original post here.}

March 7, 2009 will always be one of my very favorite days. I was SO sure he was going to propose the week after when we were in NYC for spring break over my birthday, but he somehow managed to surprise me, incorporate our love for the greatest university ever (Rock Chalk Jayhawk!), get pictures of the entire thing like I’d wanted, and make me feel like the most special girl in the world. Four years later, it still makes my heart so happy that he put so much effort into the proposal and that he puts that same amount of effort into being an awesome husband, provider, and best friend. I love that man a lot.

Hope you’re all having a great week!

  3. Aww, remember when we were both on Weddingbee just waiting for proposals? Haha! I still remember freaking out when I got your message that you were engaged - you were so sure it was going to happen in NY! And four years later, you've got a marriage that's even more beautiful than that proposal. :)
